Mechanical Engineering SME - CAD & Physics Simulation
Create realistic mechanical-engineering design problems, solve them with CAD and physics-simulation tools, and document the complete engineering workflow for AI training and evaluation. Remote, project-based work can pay up to $40/hour depending on the task and demonstrated expertise.
Apply for this role →What you'll do
- Define an original mechanical design problem with a clear objective, measurable success criteria, and realistic engineering and manufacturing constraints.
- Create the design and run reproducible structural, thermal, fluid, topology-optimisation, or related simulations using tools such as FreeCAD, CalculiX, Gmsh, OpenFOAM, or equivalent engineering software.
- Iterate through multiple design versions and preserve native CAD files, materials, loads, boundary conditions, meshes, intermediate checkpoints, and quantitative results.
- Record and narrate the working session, explaining design decisions, trade-offs, failure modes, validation, and the final outcome clearly enough for a verifier engineer to reproduce.
What we look for
- Strong practical mechanical design experience, ideally with approximately 5-10 years of relevant professional, research, or advanced project work.
- Independent experience with CAD and at least one relevant simulation workflow such as FEA, CFD, thermal analysis, or topology optimisation.
- Ability to show verifiable evidence such as a portfolio, publication, thesis, patent, competition project, technical report, or permitted description of industry work.
- Comfortable creating original tasks, recording the workflow, and sharing only work that does not expose confidential employer, university, or client material.
